US President Donald Trump has unexpectedly returned to the White House from Camp David, a day ahead of schedule. The White House has not said why he returned early. At the same time, the US government has issued a new security alert to Americans in the Middle East, warning them to be “extremely vigilant” and stay alert. It also said flights could be cancelled, airspace could be closed and travel could be disrupted.
On social media, there is another big claim: that Iran has gone to “Code 100,” meaning it has put its entire military on the highest state of alert. Is this true? Are America and Israel really preparing for another massive attack on Iran? Or are these signs appearing before yet another escalation in a war that is already going on? This is the real story today.
Why Trump Came Back Early
Here is what is confirmed. Trump went to Camp David on Friday and was supposed to stay until Sunday. But he unexpectedly returned to the White House a day early. The White House changed the schedule but did not say why. This is the big question now, because it happened at a time when tensions are rising in the Middle East.
One thing must be stated very clearly, however. Trump returning early does not mean he has given the order for an attack. There could be many reasons: an intelligence signal, a military plan, diplomatic talks, or a need to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East. The real reason is still not officially known.
The US State Department has also given a fresh security advisory to its citizens in the Middle East, which is a very important development. It said the region’s security situation is currently “complex” and could suddenly worsen. It warned Americans to be extremely vigilant, and said flights could be cancelled, airspace closures could come and travel could be disrupted.
The advisory contains one important element. America says the Iran-backed Houthis are carrying out attacks on Saudi Arabia, and it warned that civilian airports could also become targets. That means this is not just an Iran–Israel tension. Saudi Arabia has now also come into the picture.
The “Code 100” Claim
The most interesting allegation going viral on social media is that Iran has gone to Code 100, that is, that the most alert condition has been created in Iran’s military. But one must be very careful here. So far there is no independent confirmation that “Code 100” has been officially announced by the Iranian government or military, and there also appears to be no clear confirmation from Iranian official sources.
That is why it is not right to say in the news that “Iran has officially announced Code 100.” The right way to put it is: “Unconfirmed reports that Iran has gone to Code 100 are circulating on social media.” This is a very important difference, because one is a confirmed military alert and the other is an unconfirmed allegation. The two should not be treated as one.
So why is Iran so alert? This is not an ordinary US–Iran tension. Military confrontation is already taking place in the region. America, Israel, Iran and Iran-backed groups have all become part of it. The Houthis in Yemen, the Gulf region and the Red Sea are new arenas of confrontation.
Recently, Saudi Arabia announced that it intercepted a ballistic missile heading toward Riyadh. The Houthis, however, announced that they carried out missile and drone attacks on Saudi targets. A conflict that began in one country is now reaching a level where it affects the entire region.
The Strait of Hormuz: The Real Danger
The real danger is the Strait of Hormuz, and this is where the world’s biggest problem begins. It is one of the world’s most critical energy transport routes. If military tension rises in the Middle East, oil supplies, shipping, insurance costs and flights could be affected. Inflation could also rise worldwide. That means if a military attack takes place on Iran, its impact will not stop near Tehran or Tel Aviv. From Delhi to London, the whole world may have to see its impact.
Trump himself recently said, on the Iran war, that he is close to a key decision stage. He told Axios that he is considering whether to restart major military action against Iran. Axios also reported that there are orders to maintain the level of US military forces in the Middle East. The military option is therefore still under consideration in Washington. This is an important point, but it does not mean an attack on Iran is certain tomorrow morning. Whether the decision has been fully taken is not officially known to the public.
Israel is also giving very stern warnings regarding Iran. Israel’s defence minister warned that if Iran attacks Israel, Iran’s energy infrastructure could also be targeted. It is a warning that if Iran attacks, Israel’s response could also be very big.
Here too, a distinction is needed. There is currently no publicly confirmed evidence that a new major Israeli attack on Iran is certain. The allegation that Prime Minister Netanyahu cut short his US visit and returned immediately to Israel is also circulating without credible independent confirmation. That is why it is dangerous to interpret every signal on social media as “an attack is going to happen soon.”
Three Possibilities
The first is that America may be preparing for a new military action. Trump himself is talking about a key decision, and the US military is already in the theatre of war. The military capability is already there.
The second is that America may be preparing for Iran’s response. If action is taken by America or Israel, Iran could carry out a retaliatory attack. Warnings may therefore have been given in advance to US embassies, US citizens, military bases and diplomatic offices.
The third is that this could be a precautionary warning. Governments often begin preparation not only after they know an attack will definitely happen, but when they feel the danger is rising. Preparedness is therefore not proof of an attack, but it does show that governments believe the danger has risen.
This is the biggest question now. On one side is Trump’s early return. On another is the US travel warning. On another are security alerts from US embassies in the Middle East. On another is the fighting between the Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi Arabia. And on yet another is Trump himself saying he is close to a key decision on Iran. Looking at all these signals together, one thing is clearly visible: Washington is making advance plans for another big escalation of tensions. But that an order for attack has been given still remains unconfirmed.
The Risk of a Chain Reaction
This is where the real danger lies. Iran’s response need not be only against Israel. US military bases, Gulf countries, shipping routes, energy infrastructure and the Strait of Hormuz are all possible pressure points. Iran-backed groups are also active in the region. There is a danger of a chain of tensions beginning: one attack, a retaliatory attack for it, another counterattack for that, and so on. The real danger may not lie in one single big decision. It may lie in the situation going out of control through one attack after another, and another response to that.
There is another strategic problem: Iran’s nuclear capability. America and Israel say they must ensure Iran does not rebuild its capability to make nuclear weapons. Iran, however, says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. This is one of the main issues in the US–Iran confrontation. In this confrontation, the situation has already been changing: ceasefire, talks and then fighting again. Diplomacy has not died completely, but the military option has not ended either. That is why the situation is so dangerous.
The most important question is whether America is going to carry out another massive attack on Iran. Right now the answer is that it is not known. But there are some real warning signals. Trump came to the White House early from Camp David. America issued a Middle East travel advisory, told US citizens to be alert and warned about flight and airspace disruptions. The US military is in the theatre of war itself. Trump said he is close to a key decision, and Israel too is giving warnings to Iran. At the same time, the allegation that “Iran has gone to Code 100” remains unconfirmed. It cannot be presented as a confirmed fact.
Rather than titling this story “America is going to attack Iran,” there is a more accurate question: “Is the Middle East heading toward another massive escalation of tensions?” America is preparing. Iran is preparing. Israel is preparing. Gulf countries are also reviewing their security. In the middle, it is ordinary people who are suffering the most.
But the real big question is not just whether America will attack Iran. If America attacks, how will Iran respond? After Iran’s response, what will Israel do? What will the Gulf countries do? What will happen to the Strait of Hormuz? Where will oil prices go? Above all, where will this tension stop? The most dangerous word in the Middle East now is not war. It is escalation.
