Kakinada: A woman from Andhra Pradesh was allegedly attacked with acid by her employers in Kuwait after questioning a salary discrepancy, sparking outrage and calls for urgent government intervention.

The victim, Kakada Lakshmi, hails from Ponnada village in U. Kothapalli mandal of Kakinada district. Following the death of her husband, she reportedly travelled to Kuwait two months ago through an agent from YSR district, seeking employment as a domestic worker. She had entered into a contract that promised a monthly salary of 150 Kuwaiti Dinars.

However, after joining work, Lakshmi was reportedly paid only 100 Dinars. When she confronted her employers over the reduced payment, they allegedly retaliated by pouring acid on her and admitted her to a psychiatric hospital. The incident reportedly took place ten days ago, but only came to light recently after Lakshmi informed hospital authorities, who helped her lodge a complaint.

Lakshmi’s family claims that her passport is being withheld by the employers, who are pressuring her to withdraw the case. They have appealed to the Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene and ensure her immediate repatriation. “We don’t know what to do. We urge the government to bring Lakshmi back home safely,” said a family member. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
