Nizamabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the National Turmeric Board office in Nizamabad, describing it as the fulfillment of a four-decade-long dream of turmeric farmers. He said the initiative reflects the Modi government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers in Telangana and across the country.
Calling it a privilege to inaugurate the board, Shah acknowledged the efforts of BJP MPs in securing the board for Telangana. He added that not only was the board established in the state, but a local leader, Gangareddy, was appointed as its chairman. Highlighting the medicinal properties of turmeric, Shah said, “It acts as an anti-viral, anti-cancer, and anti-bacterial agent and enjoys global demand. Our goal is to achieve turmeric exports worth $1 billion by 2023.” He said the board would provide training in modern cultivation methods and enable geo-tagging of turmeric crops. The event was also attended by Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, Telangana Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and Seethakka, and MPs Dharmapuri Arvind and K. Laxman.
