Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati is set to mark a historic milestone as the State government prepares to hold the Republic Day celebrations here for the first time. All arrangements have been completed for the 2026 State-level Republic Day event, which was earlier held annually at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada.
A newly developed parade ground in Rayapudi, near the Seed Access Road and opposite the Ministers’ Bungalows, will serve as the venue. Spread across nearly 22 acres, the facility includes a main dais, parade track, and spectator galleries. Final rehearsals for the ceremony have already been conducted.
Authorities have made extensive arrangements for the public as well as VIPs and VVIPs. Around 15 acres have been allocated for VIP and VVIP vehicle parking, while another 25 acres are reserved for public parking. Seating has been arranged for approximately 13,000 attendees, with clearly demarcated entry and exit routes to ensure smooth movement.
In a special gesture, the government has accorded recognition to farmers who contributed land for the development of Amaravati. A dedicated VIP gallery has been set up for them, and invitations have been extended to encourage their participation. Officials said the move is intended to honour the sacrifices made by farmers for the capital city.
The celebrations will feature tableaux highlighting the developmental initiatives of various government departments, along with cultural performances by students. The Governor will unfurl the national flag and inspect the ceremonial parade.
Police have put in place comprehensive security and traffic management measures to prevent any inconvenience. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, along with ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives, are expected to attend the event.
Though Amaravati was declared the State capital several years ago, this will be the first large-scale official function to be hosted in the city, making the occasion a significant symbolic step toward its future development.
