New Delhi: Air India has announced that it will suspend non-stop flight services between Delhi and Washington D.C. starting September 1, 2025. The suspension is primarily due to maintenance and retrofitting work on its fleet of 26 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, a process expected to continue until the end of 2026.
The airline cited the need to maintain overall network reliability during this period when many aircraft will be unavailable. Additionally, the closure of Pakistan’s airspace has forced flights to take longer routes, impacting operations on the Delhi-Washington corridor.
Passengers with bookings on the Delhi-Washington route after September 1 will be contacted for alternative arrangements. Air India has assured affected travelers options including seat allocation on other flights or full refunds.
While non-stop services on this route will be suspended, Air India will continue non-stop flights to other North American cities, including Toronto and Vancouver. The airline did not specify the duration of the suspension but indicated services may resume after fleet upgrades are completed.
Travelers to Washington D.C. can also consider one-stop flights via New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Chicago, or San Francisco.
