Recently  in Sri Lanka, the day before in Bangladesh, and today in Nepal, people have revolted against their rulers. This was not a normal protest—they forcefully overthrew those in power, even surrounding and breaching presidential residences. No armed forces could stop them, and the anger of the people could not be contained. For years, these rulers considered themselves kings of their countries, but the citizens forced them to flee abroad. After living luxuriously at the expense of their people, these leaders now find themselves hiding overseas, unable to be seen by anyone. The reason is the same everywhere: corruption.

In Sri Lanka, decades of rule by the Rajapaksa family, coupled with corruption and misgovernance, triggered public outrage. The family allegedly monopolized key government positions and engaged in large-scale corruption. Accusations of irregularities in government contracts and loans fueled the anger. Protests escalated into violent street demonstrations, with demonstrators surrounding President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s official residence. The president eventually had to flee the country.

Bangladesh experienced similar unrest. Public anger was fueled not only by corruption but also by authoritarian governance, unemployment, and other issues. The Sheikh Hasina government faced accusations of authoritarianism, suppressing opposition, and attempting to curb press freedom while engaging in widespread corruption. Protesters attacked party offices and the homes of leaders.

In Nepal, corruption again emerged as the central issue. Videos exposing government wrongdoing were widely shared by youth on social media, prompting authorities to impose bans on these platforms. This triggered mass protests, with demonstrators damaging the Parliament building, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s residence, and the homes of other ministers. Across all three countries, economic crises, severe corruption, and authoritarian governance have been key drivers of popular revolt.

A tweet by Ravi Prakash has now gone viral on social media. He shared a video of a female leader who stated that when political leaders are given power, they enrich themselves while increasing the people’s debts, instead of governing the country. The video highlighted that when politicians fail to do their work and instead exploit and mismanage the nation, public revolt is inevitable. Ravi Prakash noted that the recent uprisings in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal serve as strong examples. He also warned that if corruption continues to rise in our country, similar conditions could emerge here.
