The term of local bodies in Telangana is nearing completion, with elections expected to be held soon. However, the state government has yet to announce a specific date for the elections, leaving ambiguity over the timeline. Despite this, the Election Commission has confirmed its readiness to conduct the elections and is currently providing necessary training to officials.

Concerns Raised Over Conducting Elections During Exams
The Telangana State Sarpanches Association has raised concerns over the timing of the elections, specifically during the ongoing 10th and Intermediate examinations. The association submitted a formal petition to Jayasimha Reddy, Joint Secretary of the Election Commission, requesting that elections not be held during this crucial exam period, citing potential disruption to students’ academic performance, especially in rural areas.
The association has urged that elections be scheduled only after the completion of exams, emphasizing the need to safeguard students’ education.
Pending Bills and Financial Strain on Sarpanches
Additionally, the association highlighted that many sarpanches are facing financial strain due to unpaid bills for development projects carried out over the last five years. They have called for the clearance of these pending bills before proceeding with the elections.

Political Allegations and Demands for Fair Representation
The association also accused the Revanth Reddy-led government of targeting sarpanches politically, claiming that the government had failed to deliver on pre-election promises of support. Furthermore, the association demanded that the government allocate 42% reservation for BCs in the upcoming elections and ensure equitable representation for SCs. The association has urged the government to honor its commitments and ensure the elections are held in a fair and transparent manner.
