The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated an investigation into senior IPS officer and former CID chief Sunil Kumar, following allegations involving the transfer of Rs 75 lakh to fake accounts. The state government has established an inquiry authority to probe these claims, with Andhra Pradesh Revenue Department Special Chief Secretary R.P. Sisodia and Vigilance DG Harish Kumar Gupta appointed as members.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary, K. Vijayanand, issued the orders, directing the inquiry to be concluded swiftly, with a report to be submitted. The inquiry will focus on the charges against Sunil Kumar, which include alleged financial misconduct involving fake accounts.
In a related development, AP Assembly Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishna Raju wrote to the ACB DG, accusing Sunil Kumar of involvement in the illegal transfer of funds linked to private technology contracts. He further claimed that Sunil Kumar used threats to demand additional funds and was implicated in the AgriGold case. Raghurama’s complaints extend beyond state-level allegations, with accusations of custodial torture also filed against Sunil Kumar. These various allegations have led the AP government to establish the inquiry authority to investigate the matter and determine the truth.
Following the investigation, the government is expected to take action based on the findings of the inquiry report. The establishment of a formal inquiry authority for an IPS officer underscores the significance of the allegations.
