Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha strongly defended the Dharani portal in the Legislative Council, emphasizing its role in eliminating land frauds and simplifying land transactions in Telangana. She credited the system with resolving long-standing issues and cautioned against any efforts to revert to older practices.
“Dharani is a protective shield for Telangana farmers. Since its implementation, land scams have been eradicated. Any attempts by the Congress government to undermine it will not be forgiven by history,” Kavitha stated. She criticized the alleged misuse of the Bhoobharati Act, claiming it could lead to mismanagement and disputes.
Impact of Dharani on Telangana’s Land Administration
Kavitha highlighted that Telangana has 2.8 crore acres of land, of which 1.5 crore acres are agricultural, and only 17.8 lakh acres remain under dispute. “Earlier, tenant farmers were entangled in legal battles for decades. Dharani has ensured rightful ownership of land for farmers, bringing clarity and security,” she noted.
The BRS leader emphasized the efficiency introduced by the system. “Over 35,749 employees updated revenue records within 100 days, and these were uploaded to Dharani. This has secured government lands, with no encroachments reported since the portal’s launch,” she explained.
Simplified Registration Process
Kavitha praised Dharani for its streamlined process, reducing land registration and mutation times to just 42 minutes. She noted that the improved land records have increased property values and contributed to the state’s economic growth.
“Banks now provide crop loans with ease, thanks to Dharani’s accurate records, freeing farmers from the clutches of private moneylenders,” Kavitha stated, adding that the portal has bridged gaps in the agricultural financing system.
Support for Farmers
The MLC reiterated the government’s commitment to farmer welfare, highlighting that over 66 lakh farmers have benefited from the Rythu Bandhu scheme. “Dharani has transformed the financial landscape for farmers, ensuring timely loans and better support mechanisms,” she said.
Caution Against Reverting to Old Systems
Kavitha expressed concern over reintroducing the 32-column pahani system, warning it could lead to disputes and legal burdens. She urged the government to reconsider adding columns for tenant farmers and usufructuary rights holders under the Bhoobharati Act.
“Instead of disrupting the current system, alternative support mechanisms should be devised for tenant farmers,” she suggested.
Reaffirming the transformative impact of Dharani, Kavitha urged all stakeholders to safeguard the portal’s integrity and prevent any actions that could undermine its success. “Dharani is not just a tool but a lifeline for Telangana’s farmers,” she concluded.
