Former Minister Roja has drawn criticism after a controversial incident at Suryalanka Beach in Guntur district. Dalit organizations have filed a formal complaint with the police, alleging that Roja humiliated a Dalit employee during her visit to the beach in February 2023.
Roja, who was serving as the Minister for Tourism at the time, visited the beach in Guntur district. During the visit, she instructed officials at the tourism resort to ensure her slippers were carefully monitored while she entered the sea. Resort employee Shivanagaraju, who belongs to the Dalit community, complied by carrying her slippers and setting them aside temporarily. Upon returning from the beach, Roja wore the slippers before heading back to the resort.
The incident gained attention after photos and videos circulated on social media. Dalit organizations accused Roja of showing disrespect to the employee due to his caste, while netizens voiced strong disapproval. The complaint, filed at the Third Town Police Station in Kurnool, has sparked a wider debate on caste discrimination.
