Constables’ Families in Telangana Demand Consistent Policing Policy

For the past few days, the wives of battalion constables in Telangana have been staging protests. They are voicing concerns that their husbands are being frequently relocated without stability, treated worse than laborers, and deprived of the respect typically afforded to police officers. They are demanding a uniform policing policy across the state. With the protests intensifying, the police department has taken note and temporarily suspended the recent decision to cancel the constables’ leaves.

Two Days of Protests

The decision to pause the leave cancellations follows two days of protests by the constables’ family members, who are calling for a unified policy similar to those in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. As part of the protest, a call was made for a rally at the Secretariat on Friday, leading to heightened tension.

Pending Further Orders

The protesters allege that their husbands are being assigned tasks outside regular policing duties, equivalent to labor work, which has no relevance to their police roles. In response, the police department has issued orders to temporarily suspend the leave cancellation directive until further notice. Additionally, the department has decided to hold discussions with the constables’ families to address their concerns.
