The Telangana High Court has issued notices to the state government in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the registration of 5.34 acres of land belonging to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trust in Koti, Hyderabad, under private individuals’ names. The court has directed several officials, including the Principal Secretaries of the General Administration and Revenue Departments, the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, the Collector of Siddipet District, the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), and the Tahsildar, to file counters within six weeks with complete details.

The petition was filed by Tupakula Balarangam and others, residents of Ponnala village in Siddipet Urban Mandal, claiming that the land belonging to the Gandhi Memorial Trust in Ponnala village had been encroached upon. They sought the cancellation of the registration, which was allegedly carried out illegally on August 6, 2022, during the previous BRS government’s tenure.
