The POCSO court in Sangareddy has sentenced Gaffar Ali to death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl. The court also ordered a compensation of ₹10 lakh to be paid to the victim’s family.
In October 2023, the girl’s grandparents left her under the supervision of a security guard while they went to work in the Bhanoor area. Gaffar Ali, a Bihar native who was already intoxicated, took advantage of the situation and persuaded the security guard to let him take the child. He then abducted her.
When the grandparents returned, they found their granddaughter missing. The security guard informed them that Ali had taken the child. After several hours, Ali was apprehended by the police, who found a knife in his possession. Ali confessed to luring the girl with promises of chocolates and a drink spiked with alcohol, then taking her to a nearby cotton field where he raped and murdered her.
The court, based on Ali’s confession and CCTV evidence, convicted him and imposed the death penalty. This is only the second death sentence in the united Medak district in the last 27 years. The court has also instructed that ₹10 lakh be provided to the victim’s family. Sangareddy District SP Chennoori Rupesh praised the police for their effective handling of the case.
