Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu is actively overseeing the state’s response to the ongoing heavy rains. Chandrababu has suspended all other activities to address the severe weather conditions, the impact on various regions, and the associated relief efforts.

In a series of teleconferences, Chandrababu has been coordinating with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP), ministers, district collectors, Superintendents of Police (SPs), Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs), and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). He has instructed that ₹3 crores be immediately allocated per district for relief operations. In light of reports indicating eight fatalities due to the rains, Chandrababu has announced compensation of ₹5 lakhs for each affected family.

Emergency Measures and Continued Vigilance

Chandrababu has directed all government departments to remain on high alert, anticipating continued heavy rainfall for the next two days. He has specifically advised that villages along the coast in North Andhra be prepared as a cyclone is expected to make landfall between Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam tonight. District collectors in these areas have been instructed to heighten their vigilance. Chandrababu emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure public safety throughout the night. He also recommended that officials be prepared for wind speeds of 55 to 65 km/h during the cyclone’s landfall, with detailed preparations based on wind speed forecasts.

Guidelines for Relief and Safety

– Public Safety Advisory: Citizens are advised to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary until the rainfall subsides.
– Rainfall and Flood Management: Areas with 10 to 20 cm of rainfall are expected to continue experiencing rain. Immediate action is required in urban areas where water accumulation is significant. Relief funds of ₹3 crores are being provided to heavily affected districts, and ₹2 crores to districts with lesser impact.
– Water Management: Officials are instructed to address obstructions in water flows and clear open drains to prevent accidents.
– Cyclone Preparedness: Cyclone shelters must be prepared, and evacuation plans should be in place if necessary. Authorities are advised to monitor and manage water flow in fields and drains to mitigate flooding.
– Assistance for Vulnerable Groups: Information on pregnant women should be collected to ensure they receive necessary support.

Additional Instructions and Monitoring

– Media and Communication: The government is closely monitoring updates through media and official channels. Any indication of negligence will be addressed promptly.
– Incident Reports: The CM has requested explanations regarding a recent car accident in Pedakakani Uppalapadu stream, which resulted in three fatalities. He also inquired about school closures, noting that schools were closed after noon and emphasizing that educational institutions in affected districts should remain closed. Private institutions are required to follow government directives.
– Weather Alerts and Proactive Measures: Announcements regarding closures should be based on weather forecasts provided a day in advance. Chandrababu stressed the importance of preventing incidents rather than responding after they occur, advocating for a proactive approach and effective planning based on past experiences, such as those from the Hudhud cyclone.
