The controversy surrounding expelled MIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has taken a significant turn. Facing a string of controversies along with serious allegations, including misbehaviour towards a woman and rape of a minor girl, the party expelled him and directed him to resign from his MLC post. In response, Baig released a video stating that he was currently on an Umrah pilgrimage and appealed to the party leadership to reconsider his expulsion. However, with Baig failing to comply with the party’s directive, an angered leadership swiftly terminated his party membership, a development announced by AIMIM Joint Secretary S.A. Hussain Anwar on X, triggering a major stir.

Not stopping there, the party issued a fresh directive asking Baig to immediately resign from his MLC post and submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council without delay. Allegations have surfaced that Mirza Rahmath Baig misbehaved with women at an event recently held in Attapur, with videos also going viral on social media purportedly showing him entering a woman’s house in disguise. Against this backdrop, the MIM took action against him, with AIMIM Joint Secretary Hussain Anwar posting on X that Rahmath Baig had been immediately expelled from AIMIM and would be required to submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council without delay.

However, Rahmath Baig appears unwilling to resign. With him refusing to step down, an increasingly serious party terminated his membership altogether. Meanwhile, his expulsion has snowballed into a major political controversy. Remarks made by Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh on the matter have taken centre stage, with him demanding an explanation for why MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig was expelled from Majlis, and questioning what lay behind the decision to suspend him in the middle of the night.

Separately, Telangana BJP president N. Ramachander Rao also dropped a bombshell on the issue, making the sensational allegation that Baig was involved in the sexual assault case involving a minor girl. He expressed strong displeasure over political parties remaining silent on the matter, alleging that both the Congress and the BRS had helped Baig win his MLC seat, and demanded that these parties now respond publicly on the issue.

Rahmath Baig has faced several allegations in the past as well, having repeatedly been at the centre of controversies over his brash conduct. He reportedly began his political journey as a driver to former Majlis MLA Pasha Quadri, before rising through the ranks to become a party worker and eventually a leader. Over the years, however, he faced allegations of behaving rudely towards leaders of other parties as well as government officials. He has also been accused of routinely inserting himself into disputes, arriving with his supporters at the scene of any altercation across the city, including in the Old City, and stirring up trouble.

Following his expulsion from the party, Rahmath Baig released a video stating that he had travelled to Umrah with his family members on the 26th. He alleged that obscene videos aimed at damaging his reputation had been circulated on social media, and said he had lodged a complaint with the Golconda Cyber Crime police regarding the matter. He further stated that he wished to continue as a Majlis party worker and expressed hope that party chief Asaduddin Owaisi would ensure justice was done for him.
