The war between Russia and Ukraine has escalated to a fever pitch, with both countries reeling under continuous drone attacks. In the latest strike, Russia once again unleashed a massive drone assault on Ukraine, killing as many as 37 people, according to reports. Ukrainian officials described it as the deadliest attack carried out by Russia this year. The strike targeted a weapons storage facility in the Myla area of Bucha district, triggering explosions from the munitions stored inside. The resulting blaze spread to nearby homes and buildings, claiming several lives.
Russia has been carrying out relentless strikes on Ukraine since Thursday, with repeated attacks on the capital Kyiv and surrounding areas bringing civilian life to a complete standstill. With a large stockpile of missiles at its disposal, Russia has been launching attacks at regular intervals. Ukrainian officials have alleged that Russia is deliberately attempting to overwhelm the country through relentless strikes, aiming to exhaust Ukraine’s weapons reserves as it struggles to repel the continuous assaults. Ukraine has repeatedly voiced concern over depleting stocks of Patriot missiles, a critical component of its air defence system, amid the ongoing war with Russia, and has appealed to the United States to increase the supply of these missiles.
The strike on Myla damaged nearly 50 buildings, including a care home for the elderly, which was destroyed in the attack, killing several elderly residents. Local officials said around 370 people were evacuated to safer locations in the aftermath of the strikes.
Meanwhile, some local residents questioned authorities over why weapons were being stored in the midst of residential areas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that the situation arose due to negligence on the part of certain officials, and promised that action would be taken against those found responsible. He also expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the attack.
