Actress Anasuya, who remains active on social media, has had a recent post on a significant topic go viral. Her emotionally charged post on social media has drawn widespread attention. In it, she stated that she has been troubled for the past three years by the changes she witnessed in her mother’s life following her father’s death, raising several questions about the tradition that requires women to give up the bindi and bangles after their husband’s passing.
“A question has been troubling me deeply for the past three years. My father passed away three years ago, and since then, a lot has changed in our lives. My mother used to look so beautiful when she got dressed up — with her bindi, kajal, colourful bangles, and anklets, she was truly a sight to see. But after my father passed away, she gave up all of these because of what society had to say. That situation was difficult for me to accept. I especially want girls to understand my pain. There is just one question that keeps following me. Mothers and grandmothers introduce girls to the bindi, kajal, bangles, and mehendi long before marriage, don’t they? So why are these things tied to a husband’s life?” she questioned.
“In my view, if it was the grandmother who introduced this style of adornment, shouldn’t these things be given up only when she passes away? Wearing a bindi or bangles is entirely a personal choice, isn’t it?” she asked. “I still see certain forced rules even during poojas and auspicious occasions. Where exactly are all these rules written down, anyway? I’m not directing these words at anyone, nor am I speaking against anyone. I’m simply sharing a doubt that has been on my mind with all of you,” Anasuya said, expressing her thoughts in a post that has since gone viral.
