India is setting new benchmarks in the global technology sector. Having already rolled out 5G networks nationwide at record speed, the country is now preparing to introduce ‘6G’ technology, which promises to be even faster.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement during the “Melbourne Meets Modi” event held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne as part of his Australia visit. The mega event was attended by nearly 30,000 members of the Indian diaspora. Modi stated clearly that India is set to soon become the world’s third-largest economy, and that 6G services would also be made available in the country in the near future.
According to the announcement, 6G technology will be nearly 100 times faster than the 5G network currently in use. This will result in an unprecedented increase in internet speeds. For instance, a full high-quality movie could be downloaded in as little as one second or less. Beyond this, 6G internet is expected to serve as the backbone for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced robotics, driverless cars, and hologram calling.
Modi also highlighted India’s transformation in manufacturing. A country that once depended on other nations for mobile phones and electronic goods has now grown to the point of manufacturing them domestically. He said with pride that over the past 12 years, “Make in India” has become a global brand. Mobile phones, electronics, cars, and medicines manufactured in India are now reaching markets across the world. He added that India is emerging as a manufacturing hub across the board — “from chips to ships.”
