Toledo, Ohio: A mass shooting at the historic Old West End Festival in Toledo, Ohio, left at least 12 people injured on Saturday, triggering panic among thousands of attendees and prompting a large-scale police investigation.
The incident occurred around 5:37 p.m. near the intersection of Delaware and Glenwood avenues during the 53rd edition of the annual festival, a popular event known for its live music, cultural activities, and family-friendly entertainment.
According to preliminary findings, two or more armed individuals exchanged gunfire, with several bystanders caught in the crossfire. Videos circulating on social media showed festival-goers fleeing the area in fear as gunshots echoed through the venue.
Authorities confirmed that no fatalities have been reported. However, at least 12 people sustained injuries, ranging in age from 14 to 61 years. Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan said two victims remain in critical condition.
Eyewitness Kevin Berry, a U.S. Navy veteran, told local media that he witnessed an individual drop a firearm and flee after the shooting. He also reported seeing multiple victims injured near the festival’s Arboretum area.
Police said the suspects fled the scene immediately after the incident and have not yet been identified or apprehended. The Toledo Police Department has launched an extensive search operation and increased law enforcement presence around Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue as investigators continue to gather evidence.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. Festival attendees have been urged to share any photos or videos that may assist the investigation.
In the wake of the incident, local officials canceled all remaining events associated with the two-day festival. Toledo City Council member Theresa Morris described the shooting as a tragic and deeply disturbing event that overshadowed a celebration intended to bring the community together.
Reacting to the incident, Mike DeWine condemned the violence and expressed concern over the growing threat of gun-related incidents at public gatherings. He pledged full support for law enforcement efforts and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
The investigation remains ongoing.
