The Telangana Police have intensified their manhunt for Bandi Bhageerath, who is accused in a POCSO case involving a minor girl. Four special police teams have been formed to trace the accused, with search operations currently underway across Hyderabad, Karimnagar, and Delhi. The case has triggered significant political and public attention in Telangana.
As part of the investigation, police teams conducted searches at the Karimnagar residence of Union Minister and MP, along with the houses of Bhageerath’s maternal uncle Vamsi Krishna and several other relatives. Sources said investigators are examining all possible locations linked to the accused as part of the ongoing operation.
According to reports, a police team has also travelled to Delhi following intelligence inputs that Bhageerath could be staying under the protection of certain BJP leaders. Officials, however, have not made any official confirmation regarding his exact whereabouts. Investigators said the accused’s mobile phone has remained switched off for the past few days, making efforts to track him more difficult.
Meanwhile, heavy police deployment has been arranged at the Pet Basheerabad Police Station in Hyderabad, where the case was registered. Speculation is also mounting that Bhageerath may already be in police custody. Sources indicated that he could be produced before the Medchal court by this evening and shifted to judicial remand. At the same time, reports are also emerging that the accused may surrender voluntarily, creating confusion over the latest developments in the case.
The controversy began after the family members of a 17-year-old minor girl lodged a complaint at the Pet Basheerabad Police Station on May 8. Based on the complaint, police initially registered a Zero FIR and later booked a case under stringent non-bailable sections of the POCSO Act. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the allegations.
