The case of Monalisa Bhonsle, a social media “viral girl,” has sparked a nationwide controversy after the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) uncovered serious irregularities surrounding her marriage. The issue has raised concerns over alleged forgery of documents and the possibility of a larger inter-state conspiracy involving officials and intermediaries.
According to the NCST findings, Monalisa belongs to the Paradhi tribal community (ST) from Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh. She was reportedly married to a man named Farman Khan in Kerala, with her documents showing her as a major at the time of marriage. However, investigators found that her Aadhaar details had been manipulated to falsely indicate an adult age.
A detailed probe led by NCST Chairperson Antar Singh Arya revealed that Monalisa was actually a minor at the time of marriage. Government hospital records from Maheshwar confirmed her date of birth as December 30, 2009, establishing that she was only 16 years old when the marriage took place. Authorities also identified a forged birth certificate issued by a municipal council, which is now under cancellation proceedings.
Following a complaint by advocate Pratham Dubey, the investigation was expedited and reportedly exposed a network spanning Kerala and Madhya Pradesh within 72 hours. Based on the findings, police have registered stringent cases against Farman Khan. The NCST has taken the matter seriously and directed the DGPs of both states to appear before it on April 22, 2026, warning of strict action against all those involved in the alleged fraud and exploitation.
