Hyderabad: The Telangana State Education Commission (TG EAMCET) has recommended the complete cancellation of the EAPCET entrance examination for engineering and agriculture courses. The commission proposed that admissions should instead be based solely on marks obtained in the 12th grade (Intermediate), aiming to reduce the severe mental stress students face due to entrance exams.
Education Commission Chairman Akunuri Murali submitted the report to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, emphasizing that the reforms are designed to streamline the education system and benefit students.
Key Recommendations
* Intermediate education will be merged with the school system, with 11th and 12th grades considered part of school education.
* Pass marks are proposed to be increased from 35% to 45% at school and intermediate levels, and to 50% for degree and postgraduate courses.
* English-medium instruction is recommended to continue up to postgraduate studies.
Teacher Recruitment and Regulation Reforms
* Teacher recruitment will require both a degree and a B.Ed qualification, while the D.Ed course will be phased out.
* A dedicated commission is proposed to regulate fees in private colleges.
* The commission recommended allocating 18% of the state budget to education.
* All government schools are encouraged to offer nursery, LKG, and UKG classes to strengthen early childhood education.
If implemented, the reforms would allow students to focus on their Intermediate studies to secure engineering seats, reducing dependency on coaching centers. The measures also aim to make private college fees more affordable and enhance the quality of foundational education in government schools.
