In a surprising turn of events, the BJP has won the mayoral post in Karimnagar municipal corporation. Kolagani Srinivas of the BJP was elected Mayor with the support of 34 corporators, while Sunil Rao, also from the BJP, assumed the position of Deputy Mayor, as confirmed by the election authorities.
The BJP had won 30 seats in the municipal elections, and with several independent corporators joining the party, it was widely expected to claim the mayoral post. Meanwhile, Congress, BRS, MIM, All India Forward Bloc members, and some independents attempted to unite to take control of the corporation, setting up separate coordination camps at a resort on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Ultimately, the BRS maintained a neutral stance, and only 21 corporators backed the Congress mayoral candidate. This paved the way for the BJP, which secured the mayoral seat with 34 corporators’ support, marking a decisive victory in Karimnagar.
