Several decisions taken during the previous BRS government remain controversial, with multiple cases filed against former ministers and officials. Among these, the Formula E-Car race case has drawn significant attention, and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is expected to file a chargesheet this week, naming BRS Working President and former minister K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) as the primary accused.
The case was registered after the Congress government came to power, and the investigation is reportedly near completion. ACB officials have finalized the chargesheet and obtained the necessary approval from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to prosecute IAS officer Arvind Kumar, a key secondary accused. The bureau has collected crucial electronic and digital evidence, and it estimates that the HMDA incurred losses of ₹75.88 crore due to the Formula E-Car race.
The chargesheet is expected to allege a quid pro quo arrangement in which the A1 NextGen company, contracted for the race, allegedly transferred ₹45 crore in electoral bonds to the BRS party. KTR had previously received authorization for prosecution from the Governor in November last year. The ACB registered an FIR on December 18, 2024, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also launched a related investigation, questioning KTR, Arvind Kumar, and BLN Reddy regarding the case.
ACB officials allege in the chargesheet that KTR and other accused engaged in misappropriation of funds, fraudulent activities, and criminal conspiracy to benefit third parties. While the chargesheet will formally present these allegations in court, it remains uncertain whether KTR will face immediate arrest or if further investigation will continue.
