In a major shift in U.S. foreign policy, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has released an official map showing India’s full territorial boundaries, including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and China-controlled Aksai Chin, as integral parts of India. Previous U.S. maps had marked Jammu & Kashmir as disputed, with dotted lines along the Line of Control (LoC).
Analysts say the move is part of the Trump administration’s strategy to strengthen its strategic partnership with India. The map sends a clear message to Pakistan that the U.S. does not recognize its claim over PoK, while simultaneously supporting India’s stance on Aksai Chin against China. The release follows the reduction of U.S. tariffs on India to 18%, further signaling India’s status as a key partner.
India has welcomed the updated map, noting that it affirms the country’s long-standing position that Kashmir is an integral part of India. The map has also gone viral on social media. Experts suggest this development could lead to significant shifts in South Asian geopolitics and bolster India’s position on Kashmir in international forums like the United Nations.
