Amaravati: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced plans for a new foot march, stating that he will spend the next year and a half engaging directly with the public across the state in preparation for the 2029 elections. The march is expected to cover 150 constituencies, allowing him to meet party workers personally, with the primary objective of strengthening the YSR Congress Party’s grassroots organization.
On Wednesday, Jagan met with YSRCP workers from Bhimavaram constituency at the party headquarters in Tadepalli, where he criticized the current government’s functioning and outlined changes in his political strategy, calling the upcoming phase “Jagan 2.0,” which will heavily rely on party activists. Acknowledging that his earlier focus on governance limited his interaction with party cadres, he said he would now empower workers through village-level committees and assign them key responsibilities, noting that activists are the true strength of the party and can help connect more effectively with the public.
Jagan emphasized that the foot march aims to rejuvenate the party following its 2024 election defeat and expressed confidence in returning to power after the Chandrababu administration. He assured cadres that “the fight in Jagan 2.0 will not be ordinary,” and announced that large public meetings will be held every three days during the march. While the final route is yet to be finalized, party sources indicated that it would extend from Rayalaseema to Ichchapuram in northern Andhra Pradesh, covering 150 of the state’s 175 constituencies.
Party leaders highlighted that Jagan’s previous foot march ahead of the 2019 elections had contributed to a landslide victory, with 151 seats won, and said this experience is now guiding the new strategy. Analysts note that the march aims to boost morale among party workers and prepare the YSRCP for the upcoming political battles in the state.
