The Congress high command held a teleconference to review the results of the recently concluded panchayat elections in Telangana, expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of several party leaders. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Congress state affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, and other senior leaders.
During the review, the leadership discussed the election outcomes and took a strong view against MLAs and constituency in-charges who failed to effectively coordinate with party rebels. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud reportedly expressed displeasure over the conduct of 16 MLAs, accusing them of not working sincerely for the panchayat polls.
The leadership also criticised the lack of coordination with rebels and the practice of fielding relatives as candidates, stating that such actions had caused damage to the party. The MLAs concerned were advised to change their approach and strictly adhere to party rules and organisational discipline.
Despite the internal criticism, Congress-backed candidates emerged as the largest winners in the panchayat elections. Polls were conducted in three phases across 12,733 villages in 31 districts. Congress secured victory in 7,010 seats, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) won 3,502 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed 688 seats. Independent and other candidates won 1,505 seats.
However, the party leadership expressed serious concern over losses in several villages considered traditional Congress strongholds. In response, the high command convened meetings with the MLAs and constituency in-charges held responsible for the setbacks, signalling tighter organisational oversight going forward.
