The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), one of the largest organizations serving the Indian community in the United States, has unanimously elected Srikant Akkapalli as its President for 2026. Representing regions including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, FIA promotes Indian culture and organizes major events such as the annual India Day Parade in New York City. Akkapalli’s election marks the first time a Telugu individual has assumed this prestigious role, a significant honor for the Telugu diaspora.
A professional businessman, Akkapalli has extensive experience in real estate development, technology, and media, and is a prominent figure in the Telugu media sector in the U.S. Prior to his election as President, he served as FIA Convener and Reception Chair in 2025, and held key roles in multiple community organizations. His unanimous selection followed a thorough review by the election commission, which included prominent leaders such as Alok Kumar, Jayesh Patel, and Kenny Desai. The decision recognized his integrity, dedication, and commitment to community service.
Upon his election, Akkapalli expressed gratitude to FIA members and leadership, calling it a privilege to be part of the organization. He pledged to strengthen FIA’s ongoing programs, introduce new initiatives to foster community engagement, and enhance connections among the Indian diaspora in the U.S. He is scheduled to assume office on January 1, 2026.
