New Delhi: The Centre has officially confirmed that the recent car bomb explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort was a terrorist attack. Following the incident, the Union Cabinet and the Central Security Council convened emergency meetings chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review the situation and assess counter-terrorism measures. The Cabinet strongly condemned the blast, observed a two-minute silence for the victims, and reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said those responsible would be brought to justice without exception.
During the meetings, key decisions were reportedly taken concerning diplomatic coordination, strengthening internal security, and charting a comprehensive action plan to prevent such attacks. Before presiding over the security council session, Prime Minister Modi, who had just returned from a two-day visit to Bhutan, visited Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital to meet with the injured victims. He spoke to those under treatment, inquired about their condition, and wished them a swift recovery while receiving detailed updates from senior doctors and officials.
The powerful explosion, which occurred on Monday evening near the Red Fort Metro Station in a parked Hyundai i20 car, claimed at least 12 lives and left several others injured. Preliminary forensic and post-mortem reports indicated that the victims suffered severe blast-related injuries. The explosion also caused extensive damage to nearby vehicles, including rickshaws and autos. Around 20 critically injured individuals were immediately taken to LNJP Hospital for emergency medical care.
