A Chinese national’s purchase of an old building located just 200 metres from the White House, the residence of US President Donald Trump, has now become a subject of intense discussion. Philip Kiyu, a man alleged to have ties to China’s ruling party, purchased a building in Washington through his family-owned firm for nearly 8.4 million dollars. The purchase is understood to have been completed in July 2026. Strong suspicions have emerged over whether there is some conspiracy behind purchasing a building located so close to the White House.
So Who Exactly Is Philip Kiyu?
Philip Kiyu previously worked with the Shanghai Police Department in China, which functions under China’s Ministry of Public Security. He reportedly has training as a sniper capable of precisely hitting targets with a firearm, along with army-style specialised combat training. In 2011, he set a record as the top sniper in a military competition. American media reports state that the firm he currently runs has links to China’s intelligence apparatus.
Former US intelligence officials fear that a building located so close to the White House could potentially be used to intercept confidential US government communications or to conduct electronic surveillance. They are calling for an immediate investigation into the matter.
Indian intelligence circles have also expressed concern over the development, noting that China avoids direct confrontation and instead pursues a strategy of gradually expanding its influence by acquiring properties and businesses in other countries.
This is not the first instance of Chinese nationals purchasing property near American military installations. In the past, there was significant controversy over land purchases near US Army bases in Texas and North Dakota. Now, with a building purchased directly next to the White House itself, the development has emerged as a major challenge for America’s security agencies.
