Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a landmark decision making it mandatory to sing the national song, Vande Mataram, in all educational institutions across the state. He made the announcement while participating in a mass Vande Mataram singing event held in Gorakhpur under the banner of the “Ekta Yatra.”
Speaking on the occasion, CM Yogi emphasized that singing the national song in schools will instill patriotism and respect for the nation in children from an early age. He highlighted that Vande Mataram created a sensation during the freedom movement and inspired millions of Indians. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the song, which was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875, and first published in his novel Anandamath. The central government has also decided to organize related events throughout the year to commemorate the milestone.

On Friday, a 150-year anniversary event for Vande Mataram was held in Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the song instills self-confidence in the people. Despite this, in many states, students still sing the song only during morning prayers in schools, highlighting the ongoing need for broader adoption.
