The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a record-breaking cash reward of Rs 51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team following their historic victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup. India clinched the title for the first time by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final held at Navi Mumbai. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia made the announcement, calling it a recognition of the team’s exceptional achievement on the global stage. Notably, the BCCI’s prize amount exceeds the ICC’s official champion prize money of approximately ₹39.78 crore.

Saikia stated that the Rs 51 crore reward will be distributed among all team members, including players, coaching staff, and support personnel. He emphasized that the decision aligns with the board’s ongoing commitment to ensure equal recognition and pay for both men and women cricketers. “This victory is not just about lifting a trophy; it’s about inspiring the next generation of women athletes across India,” he said, highlighting how the achievement strengthens the country’s sporting spirit.

The BCCI’s announcement marks a significant step forward in promoting gender equality within Indian cricket. The board’s move mirrors similar incentives previously awarded to men’s teams after major tournament victories, reflecting a broader vision of parity and respect across all formats. Saikia noted that the success of the women’s team has infused new enthusiasm into Indian sports, symbolizing a new era for women’s cricket in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s team on social media, commending their skill, confidence, and determination in the final. “This victory stands as an inspiration for future champions,” he wrote. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh also extended their wishes, lauding the team’s remarkable performance. Lokesh stated that the win would be remembered in history and expressed confidence that captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her team would continue to reach greater heights in the future.
