Kul Man Ghising is reportedly set to be appointed as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal following intense political unrest triggered by mass youth protests. His name was proposed by the Gen-Z protest movement and has received wide acceptance from various sections of society. Ghising earlier served as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, and an official announcement on his appointment is expected soon.
The crisis began after the government imposed a ban on social media platforms, sparking large-scale demonstrations by youth across the country. Protesters accused top officials of corruption and irregularities, and several demonstrations turned violent with damage to government property. In response, the army was deployed to control the situation. Under mounting pressure, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, several ministers, and President Ram Chandra Paudel resigned from their positions.
Despite these resignations, protests have continued unabated. The army has enforced an indefinite curfew in Kathmandu and taken control of the capital. Amid this volatile situation, Ghising has emerged as the preferred candidate to lead the interim government and restore stability in the country.
