Hyderabad: Telangana is experiencing widespread heavy rains under the influence of a low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Several districts have recorded rainfall above normal levels, causing streams, lakes, and ponds to overflow. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in the next few hours and urged residents to remain vigilant.

Authorities have issued a Red Alert for Kamareddy, Medak, Medchal, Siddipet, Yadadri, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, and Nizamabad districts, while a Yellow Alert has been declared in several others. Flash flood alerts have been sounded in 11 districts, including Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Bhupalpally, Komaram Bheem, Nirmal, and Vikarabad. In view of the situation, schools and colleges in Medak and Kamareddy districts have been closed.

Heavy rains also damaged railway tracks at some points, leading to train cancellations and diversions. The IMD has warned of continued downpours across Telangana, including Hyderabad, where areas such as Madhapur, Patancheru, Jubilee Hills, Hitec City, Secunderabad, Ameerpet, Gachibowli, and Kukatpally are expected to witness intense showers.
