New Delhi: China and India, long embroiled in border tensions, are taking steps to restore diplomatic engagement as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit India next week. The visit, confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs, will take place from August 18 to 20. During his three-day trip, Wang Yi is scheduled to meet India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other senior officials to discuss bilateral cooperation and address lingering border issues.
The two countries have faced persistent disputes, including the Galwan Valley clashes in eastern Ladakh, incursions in Arunachal Pradesh, and tensions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent talks have seen agreements on troop disengagement in Ladakh, resumption of patrols, reinstatement of direct air services, and permission for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. Wang Yi’s visit is expected to further diplomatic dialogue, strengthen trade ties, and advance collaboration between the two nations. Earlier, EAM Jaishankar and NSA Doval visited China, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit also planned in the near future.
