China Expands Military, Hydropower Infrastructure Near India Border, Raising Security Concerns

China is increasingly ramping up its strategic pressure on India, despite publicly claiming to improve bilateral ties. Satellite images analyzed by open-source intelligence (OSNIT) suggest that a large-scale military complex is nearing completion on the eastern bank of Pangong Lake in Ladakh, with fortified garages for missile trucks and a possible launch or radar platform, posing a threat to Indian air operations.

Simultaneously, China is building a mega dam just 30 km from the India-China border on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) river in Tibet, which experts warn could be used to manipulate water flow into downstream Indian states like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, risking both massive flooding and water scarcity. These developments, combining military build-up and water control, reflect a dual-front strategy by China that experts say could jeopardize India’s geopolitical and strategic stability.
