Hyderabad: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday conducted raids at the residence of Chetti Muralidhar Rao, former Chief Engineer of the Telangana Irrigation Department, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. Following the searches, Rao was taken into custody for further questioning.
The raids were carried out at his residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, as well as in nine other locations including Karimnagar and Zaheerabad. The action comes in the wake of allegations that Rao had amassed assets beyond his known sources of income during his tenure as Engineer-in-Chief. Sources indicate that key evidence gathered during the preliminary inquiry led to the coordinated searches. Rao had previously held senior positions in the Irrigation Department and was directed to step down from the post of Engineer-in-Chief (General) following the Medigadda barrage structural collapse. The investigation is ongoing and further details are awaited.
