New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday issued notices to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald money laundering case, following the filing of a chargesheet by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Rouse Avenue Court accepted the ED’s plea to summon the accused and has scheduled the next hearing for May 8. The court stated that it would hear the arguments of all parties involved before proceeding further.

According to the ED, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were involved in a criminal conspiracy to acquire properties worth over Rs 2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the publisher of National Herald. The agency alleges that 99% of AJL’s shares were transferred to Young Indian Pvt Ltd—an entity controlled by the Gandhis—for just Rs 50 lakh.

The ED has also named senior Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as co-accused in the case. The Congress party has not yet issued an official response to the latest court development.
