Hyderabad: In a strategic move to bolster connectivity to Telangana’s upcoming “Future City”, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prepare a proposal for extending the Hyderabad Metro Rail up to the new development zone. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting held on Friday at the Command Control Centre.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and enquired about pending approvals from the central government. Officials informed him that consultations have already been held with Union authorities in Delhi regarding the expansion.

As part of the proposed plan, the metro rail will be extended by 40 kilometres from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to the Young India Skill Development University located within the Future City. CM Revanth also instructed officials to plan for a further extension up to Meerkhanpet, considering future urban expansion.
The Future City is being planned over 30,000 acres and is expected to serve as a key economic and educational hub. The Chief Minister emphasised the need to finalise the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro extension and submit it to the Centre for approval. He suggested that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Future Sustainable Development Authority (FSDA) jointly oversee the metro extension work.
Meanwhile, the Centre has already sent a DPR to the Telangana government for Phase 2 of the metro project, which proposes a 76.4 km expansion at an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore.
