On September 29th, 2024, the 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was conducted in Bengaluru, where several significant decisions were made regarding the future of Indian cricket.
Among the highlights of the meeting was the election of two representatives to the IPL Governing Council: Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal and Mr. Avishek Dalmiya. In a notable development, former Andhra cricketer Mr. V. Chamundeswarnath was nominated by the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) as a player representative, marking his induction into the IPL Governing Council during the AGM.The General Body also passed the audited accounts for the financial year 2023-24, and the Annual Budget for the upcoming financial year 2024-25 received unanimous approval. Additionally, the recommendations from the IPL Governing Council regarding the player auction cycle for 2025-2027 were accepted. These recommendations included essential provisions for player retentions, the right to match, salary caps, and more.
Furthermore, the members of the General Body praised the office bearers for their diligent work concerning the new National Cricket Academy campus, which is set to be a Centre of Excellence for cricket training.
In a decisive move, the members resolved to maintain BCCI’s legal status as a society, ensuring that tournaments, including the IPL, will not transition into a company structure. This resolution reflects the BCCI’s commitment to preserving its legacy and governance framework.
