A subcommittee meeting was convened at the Secretariat on Sunday, under the chairmanship of Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, to discuss the caste enumeration survey. The commission provided details regarding caste enumeration to the subcommittee, and it was revealed that the Telangana government is set to pass a resolution regarding the BC quota, which will be forwarded to the Centre.
According to the findings of the caste enumeration survey, 55.85% of the population falls under the BC category. The updated data is currently being analyzed to make preparations for the implementation of reservation schemes and related policies. Furthermore, a Cabinet meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the next steps.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy outlined the details of the survey: “The Congress government in Telangana undertook a caste enumeration survey over a period of 50 days, involving 1,03,889 officials. The survey covered 96.9% of households, with 3.54 crore individuals providing their details. The commission’s report indicated that 3.1% of individuals did not participate in the survey.”

Uttam Kumar Reddy also announced that a special session of the Telangana Assembly will take place on February 5, 2025, to discuss the findings. He emphasized that the caste enumeration was carried out with the intent to ensure justice for all sections of society, particularly for the backward classes.
The minister further acknowledged the success of the program, expressing gratitude to the ministers, officials, and field staff who facilitated the survey under the direction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, Reddy reminded that Congress had promised during elections to increase the BC quota by 40%.
