Zomato, a leading food delivery platform, has introduced new long-distance service fees to curb its financial losses. The company will now charge customers additional fees based on the distance between the restaurant and the delivery address.
Orders placed from restaurants located more than 4 kilometers away from the customer will attract a long-distance service fee. For distances between 4 and 6 kilometers, customers ordering above Rs 150 will be charged Rs 15. For distances exceeding 6 kilometers, the service fee will range from Rs 25 to Rs 35 depending on the city, irrespective of the order value.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Zomato did not impose any delivery charges for orders within a 5-kilometer radius. However, during the pandemic, the delivery radius was extended to 15 kilometers due to restaurant closures. The company has since reduced this radius gradually and now introduced the distance-based delivery fees to manage operational expenses.
