Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the ongoing war and expressed readiness to participate in a tripartite meeting with Russia and the United States to facilitate elections in Ukraine. Emphasizing that a ceasefire is crucial for his country, Zelenskyy said Kyiv seeks strong security guarantees from Washington, including training missions and intelligence sharing to strengthen the Ukrainian army.
Trump, who met Russian President Vladimir Putin recently and hosted Zelenskyy at the White House on Tuesday, said he is committed to stopping the war that has dragged on for over three and a half years, claiming countless lives and leaving the world weary. He noted that both Putin and Zelenskyy want an end to the conflict and described his earlier talks with Putin as having made “good progress.” Calling his meeting with Zelenskyy an honor, Trump assured reporters that the U.S. would extend substantial support to Ukraine. He also reaffirmed that European nations remain on the frontline of defense and pledged continued American backing for their security.
