Popular social media platform X has announced strict action against the rising circulation of obscene and illegal content on its platform, responding to growing concerns raised by netizens. In a statement issued through its Global Government Affairs account, X said any unlawful content posted on the platform would be removed in full, and accounts responsible for uploading such material would be permanently suspended. The company also stated that it is prepared to work closely with local governments to effectively address the issue and ensure compliance with the law.
Earlier, X owner Elon Musk had warned of stringent action against users misusing the AI tool Grok to create or share obscene content. Following this, X’s Global Government Affairs division reiterated that accounts hosting illegal material would face suspension and also shared links to the platform’s rules and policies. Meanwhile, the Indian government has taken serious note of the increasing misuse of Grok AI to generate objectionable images of women on X. On January 2, authorities issued notices to the platform, directing the removal of such content and seeking a comprehensive report on the measures taken to curb the spread of illegal and obscene material.
