A major commotion erupted at Jantar Mantar’s protest site in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon after an unidentified woman attacked Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke, throwing an ink-like liquid on him in full public view. The incident occurred while Deepke was addressing his supporters during an ongoing demonstration at the site, sending shockwaves through the gathering.

The attack triggered immediate chaos and tension at the scene. Deepke’s alarmed supporters rushed toward the woman as scuffles broke out among the crowd. As of now, the woman’s identity, political background, and motive behind the attack remain unclear, and authorities have not released further details. Following the incident, Deepke reacted on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a video of the attack with the caption, “Blue is my colour… Jai Bhim!”

The attack occurred just hours after Delhi Police forcibly ended activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, raising suspicions of a possible connection between the two events. Deepke had announced he would begin his own hunger strike at the same location after police intervened in Wangchuk’s fast, and the ink attack took place shortly after he sat down for his protest that morning.

The protests, led by CJP, began on June 20 against alleged large-scale irregularities in the NEET examination, demanding sweeping reforms to the education system. As part of the agitation, Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike on June 28. Over 21 consecutive days of fasting, his health deteriorated severely, with his body weight dropping by nearly 9.5 kilograms, prompting growing concern among medical experts and supporters.

On Saturday morning, following warnings from doctors about Wangchuk’s deteriorating condition, Delhi Police intervened under directions from the Delhi High Court and forcibly ended his fast in the presence of medical staff. He was subsequently shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for emergency treatment and remains under observation.

CJP leadership has strongly criticized the forcible removal of Wangchuk, alleging that the government is deliberately suppressing leaders engaged in peaceful, democratic protest. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has maintained he will not resign despite demands linked to the paper leak scandal. Delhi Police have since tightened security at Jantar Mantar and taken the woman who attacked Deepke into custody for further investigation.
