Tehran: Conditions are emerging for a return to war-like tension between the United States and Iran. US President Donald Trump, who rejected a peace proposal sent by Iran last week, has reportedly changed his stance and sent a different plan to Tehran. Intense negotiations are currently under way between teams from the two countries, and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a strong warning to the United States that the consequences will be severe if no consensus is reached.

A few days ago, Iran placed a peace plan before the United States with the aim of ending the war. The Trump administration initially rejected it, then sent Iran an alternative proposal with some changes from its side. Araghchi confirmed this. He said Iran’s team of experts is currently studying the US proposal extensively and that Tehran will officially announce its response to Washington soon. He stressed that Iran always seeks a peaceful environment and the resolution of disputes through diplomatic channels.

Iran’s warning

While saying it is ready for talks, Iran has also given the United States a firm warning. Araghchi said Iran is always ready to come to the negotiating table, but will not tolerate any military action or attack against it that bypasses diplomatic talks. He warned that Iran will retaliate if attacked. If diplomatic channels fail, a major war is expected to break out again in West Asia.

Trump’s midterm calculus

Meanwhile, midterm elections will be held in the United States on November 3. Against this backdrop, President Trump is reportedly looking to end the war before the elections. Trump has made clear that he will not order any military strikes on Iran before November 3. He said talks with Tehran are proceeding in a positive atmosphere and that the war will soon come to an end. According to reports, Trump took this decision out of concern that a continuing war during the election period would hurt his domestic political prospects.

US military build-up

While holding peace talks on one hand, the United States is moving its military strength toward the West Asian coast on the other. Huge American aircraft carriers are reportedly sailing rapidly toward West Asia. Suspicions have been voiced that the United States is stepping up its force deployment to this extent so that, if the peace talks fail, it can take severe action after the elections.
