In Ahmedabad’s Ranip area, a woman’s attempt to steal gold from a jewelry store was thwarted by the alert shop owner. Posing as a customer, the woman carried a concealed packet of chili powder and tried to throw it into the owner’s eyes to facilitate the theft. CCTV footage shows the owner swiftly dodging the attack, preventing any harm.
The situation escalated rapidly, with the owner restraining the woman and reportedly striking her 17 times on the face within 20 seconds. Overpowered, the woman fled the store. The dramatic incident, captured on CCTV, has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Ranip police have launched an investigation, working to identify the woman from the footage and determine whether any accomplices were involved. Authorities noted that while chili powder and pepper spray have been used in past theft attempts, the vigilance of the store owner ensured the crime was unsuccessful.

Even with chili in his eyes, the owner stood firm and slapped her 18 times!
Well…let’s say only 17, because the 18th slap wasn’t counted due to quality issues. 😎 #patlama pic.twitter.com/k8XIMMLmaW— Kuknalim Auztynn (@Kuknalim_) November 7, 2025
