Veteran actor and father of acclaimed director Ayan Mukerji, Deb Mukherjee, passed away on Friday at the age of 83. He had been battling health issues for some time and breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai.
Deb Mukherjee, known for his remarkable performances in films like Ek Baar Muskura Do (1972), Lal Patthar (1971), and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), made a significant mark in Indian cinema during the 1960s and 70s.

His final rites will be held today at 4:00 PM at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai. Several Bollywood celebrities have expressed their condolences over his demise.
Apart from his contributions to cinema, Deb Mukherjee played an active role in Mumbai’s cultural scene as one of the key organizers of the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Pandal.
Meanwhile, Ayan Mukerji is currently directing War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR.
