US Strikes Iran’s Key Oil Hub Kharg Island

The conflict in West Asia has continued for the past two weeks, with the United States and Israel carrying out strikes on Iran, while Tehran has responded by targeting American bases in Gulf countries. In the latest escalation, the United States has reportedly struck at a critical pillar of Iran’s economy. American forces launched major attacks on Kharg Island, a key hub for Iran’s crude oil exports. The development was announced by Donald Trump through a post on Truth Social.

Trump said the strikes were carried out by United States Central Command following his orders. According to him, Iranian military facilities on the island were completely destroyed in the operation, which he described as one of the most intense attacks in the region in recent times. However, he clarified that the strikes did not target the island’s oil infrastructure. He also warned that if Iran attempts to block ships near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, the United States could consider targeting Iran’s oil facilities.

The US president further stated that the United States possesses some of the most powerful weapons systems in the world and that Iran lacks the capability to defend against them. He reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and urged Tehran and its allies to immediately lay down their arms. Trump also suggested that protecting the remaining areas of the country would be the wiser course for Iran under the current circumstances.

Despite the claims made by Washington, Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the reported strikes on Kharg Island. Trump has earlier indicated that attacks would continue until Iran surrenders, while Tehran has shown no signs of backing down. Analysts say the latest development could further intensify the already volatile situation in the region.

Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf about 25 to 30 kilometers off Iran’s coast, is considered the backbone of the country’s oil exports. Nearly 90 percent of Iran’s crude shipments pass through the island, making it a crucial economic lifeline. Foreign investments have grown steadily there since 1986, turning it into a key export hub. Since the conflict began, Iran is reported to have exported about 13.7 million barrels of oil from the island. The reported strikes have raised concerns of further escalation, while global oil prices have already begun rising amid the ongoing tensions.
