Fresh tensions have emerged in the Middle East after the United States carried out major strikes targeting Iran’s military infrastructure. According to American officials, the attacks focused on key missile bases located in southern Iran as well as boats allegedly being used to deploy naval mines in strategic waters.
The United States Central Command officially confirmed the operation, stating that the strikes were conducted as part of self-defense measures aimed at protecting American forces and national interests in the region. The US military said the targeted locations were identified as potential threats capable of endangering its personnel and maritime operations.
CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins said the operation was intended to prevent future attacks and maintain regional stability. He noted that although a ceasefire agreement is currently in effect in certain parts of the region, the United States would not hesitate to act if its troops or strategic interests came under threat.
The US further alleged that Iran’s naval forces were placing dangerous sea mines in international waters, posing risks to commercial shipping vessels as well as American military ships. Washington believes destroying such boats and missile facilities is necessary to safeguard maritime security and reduce escalating risks in the Gulf region.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain peace through dialogue, the latest strikes are expected to intensify tensions between the two nations. Analysts warn that continued military actions could further destabilize the already volatile Middle East situation, even as the US maintains that its operations are purely defensive in nature.
